Essentially a coming-of-age story, this manga follows a young man as he enters Kouzu High School with his childhood friends. Tachibana Akane rediscovers his love of basketball through a chance encounter with another young man, Hiiragi Hitonari, a "thoroughbred" who has been groomed from a young age by his father and older brother for the game and then rebels. Their deepening rivalry and friendship brings together a motley underdog team to challenge for a place in Nationals, each character overcoming their own personal life problems in the face of their passion for the game. Though sheer grit and hard work they aim for their highest dreams in the face of life's very real difficulties. Asada's touchingly real characters and talent for tension guarantees you will be laughing, cheering, and crying for the characters by the end. Originally published in Monthly Shonen Jump in 1995, this manga concluded with Volume 14. It has been republished in French and Korean with the subtitle "Generation Basket" and has also produced a 2-episode OVA "I'll [CKBC]". The author is currently working on Tegami Bachi which is currently published monthly in Jump SQ and has reached an even wider audience.
